Rework: The Princess and the Frog

After watching a video review of another artist’s illustration on the website Society of Visual Storytelling, I decided to make some changes to this illustration of a jumping girl. Afterwards, I no longer had the feeling that the character was floating in the air instead of falling after her jump.

Here are the adjustments:

  • Place the hair and the dress so that they seem to float;
  • Change the position of one of the legs so that it’s more natural;
  • Increase the difference in position between the groups of members (arms, legs), because when you jump they do not move in synchrony.

Redraw: Peaceful Candle

I believe I did this illustration around the year 2007 on Photoshop drawing with the brush tool. I decided to redo it recently, this time using Affinity Designer in vector mode (aka Designer Persona). – Now, I work in vector most of the time . – This is an illustration that I liked despite its imperfections, so I wanted to rework the unrealistic light. I also decided to rework the colors to have a more complementary scheme. Personally, I like the first version better because it’s more ‘organic’.

Rework: Starry

I made this sketch and started its coloured version, 5 years ago or more. In my head, the character was supposed to be in a blue scheme because she was a night “goddess / princess”… but I changed my idea during work. I was trying to be satisfied with the result, but the problem was that the original sketch had anatomical problems. Recently, I consulted a reference and drew the body under all the hair to be able to place the head in the right spot. I came back to a blue scheme and adjusted my shadows and my light.
